This week we sat down with owners James and Sharon Schorr to see what they love about The Phillips Club and how the Phillips Club staff once literally stopped traffic for their daughter.
The Phillips Club: Describe your perfect day in NYC while you are staying at the Phillips Club.
James and Sharon Schorr: Each day starts out looking down on Broadway which never gets old. After some complimentary Phillips Club coffee we often do breakfast either at the Farmers Market at the corner of 66th and Broadway or a bagel and a newspaper eaten outside by the fountain at Lincoln Center. Biking along the Hudson river where you ride over the George Washington Bridge or glide down past the Statue of Liberty and the WTC is a favorite way to get the day going. Lunch has to be NY pizza as it never gets old! Dinner only offers 500,000 choices and we can then go to a show, the Knicks, the Yankees, or maybe one of the many events next door at Lincoln Center. It is wonderful to exit the subway no matter where we go and be 50 yards from our NY home.
TPC: Why did you decide to purchase a fractional unit at The Phillips Club?
JSS: We have been very happy owners for 7 years and have never looked back. We use is at least 12 weeks a year. We were going to buy a condo but at the Phillips Club there is never any time wasted waiting for repairs or other issues. It has same appeal as a great hotel but with the warm staff makes it feel like a second home and not a hotel for us.
TPC: What are some of your favorite restaurants in the neighborhood and why?
JSS: We love eating outside at Pomodoro nearby at Columbus and 71st. The Italian food is wonderful and not overpriced with great service. The food is always served piping hot.
TPC: What do you do for fun when you come to NYC?
JSS: NYC is Disney World for adults. There are always more things we want to do than time available. We take full advantage of the activities and of course it varies by season. People watching is always the favorite though.
TPC: What is your favorite memory of the Phillips Club staff?
JSS: There are so many fond memories as we love the staff but our daughter was married at Lincoln Center (Alice Tully) last July. She came downstairs to the Phillips Club in her bridal gown and walked across the street into the stage entrance of Lincoln Center. The desk staff applauded and the doormen stopped traffic on 66th for her and her wedding party to cross the street! The breakfast in the library the next day was also incredible.
TPC: Why would you recommend The Phillips Club to a friend?
JSS: We frequently recommend the Club to people and have never had reservations or remorse about our buying decision.
TPC: What do you love about the Upper West Side?
JSS: The UWS is the “cool place” to be in NYC. It is bustling with life to include so many young families with their kids and dogs in tow. It is a neighborhood feel and clean and safe. Everyone knows Central Park but if you have not enjoyed Riverside Park and Hudson River Park you are missing out.
Thanks so much for sharing and we hope to see you soon.
